Privacy Policy
What I collect, why I collect it, and what you can ask me to do about it. Written to comply with POPIA — the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013.
Who is responsible
Comfy Syntax, operated by Vanessa, Centurion, South Africa, decides how your personal information is used. You can reach me at hello@comfysyntax.co.za.
What I collect
- When you buy: your name, email address, and the details of what you ordered.
- When you sign up for the free guide: your email address, and a first name if you give one.
- When you visit: standard technical information your browser sends, such as approximate location and pages viewed.
I never see or store your full card number. Payment details are handled entirely by the payment providers below.
Why I use it
- To deliver the product you paid for and send your download
- To reply when you email me
- To send the free guide and, if you asked for them, occasional emails about new resources
- To keep records of sales, as tax law requires
Who else handles it
A small number of providers process information on my behalf, each only for the part they handle:
- Payfast — processes payments made in rands
- Payhip — processes payments made in US dollars
- hello@comfysyntax.co.za — sends the free guide and any emails you subscribed to
- WordPress — hosts this website
Some of these are outside South Africa, which means your information may be processed abroad. I use providers that commit to protecting it to a comparable standard.
Emails
I only email you if you asked me to, or if it relates to an order you placed. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect straight away.
Cookies
This site uses cookies that keep it working — remembering your cart and your session. I don’t use advertising or tracking cookies.
How long I keep it
Order records are kept for five years, which is what South African tax law requires. Email subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Anything else is deleted once it’s no longer needed.
Your rights
Under POPIA you can ask me to:
- tell you what personal information I hold about you
- correct anything that’s wrong
- delete it, where I’m not required by law to keep it
- stop using it for marketing
